The only significant change that I can think of is splitting up their paid Premium subscription into three cheaper plans called Strava Summit, which are all directed towards professional and competitive athletes who monitor and strive to improve their performance.
One could say, they've lost focus while growing the team to more than 200 people, because there is one thing they haven't done in many years: innovate and introduce meaningful new features to their app. Also, they've started reaching out to cities, trying to sell users' activity data for the sake of optimizing urban planning. They've developed offerings for business partners, who want to promote their brand within Strava. They've also spent a considerable amount of resources on various playful beta features summarized under the Strava Labs brand. In recent years, they've focused heavily on building a social network around activity tracking, and adding support for many different types of sports as well as indoor actives. With approximately 40 million users, they're one of the largest players in their space, adding 1 million users per month. Most people probably know Strava, the veteran for activity tracking, founded in 2009 in San Francisco. What happened? And why is it symbolical for the tech industry? This week, a lot of outdoor aficionados and athletes received emails from Strava and Relive, two companies and products, which I have great respect for and whose products I both love and use.
